The Allegany County Health Department Outpatient Addictions Program provides treatment services to individuals and families affected by chemical dependency and chemical abuse. They believe it is their responsibility to respond to the needs of the community. It is their role to help identify the need for their services within the community, and provide quality treatment. They believe crisis often pressures individuals and families into seeking treatment. They view a crisis as an opportunity to break through the denial that is part of the disease process. They, therefore, strive to offer treatment services at the time of request. Chemical-dependent individuals and families often present a variety of needs. They consider it to be part of their role to identify client needs that cannot be met by their program, and to make appropriate referrals to community resources. It is the goal of the program to assist individuals and families to recover from the negative effects of substance abuse. Further, it is their goal to improve the quality of community life by reducing the incidence and prevalence or problems in the community caused by or associated with substance abuse.
