I will first preface this by saying I realize that there are not many options for women needing transitional housing and because of this fact we are at the mercy of these programs ran by opportunist to make a profit or serve their own egos. I lived at this transitional house and it is anything but, supportive. The Directors/Owners manage through intimidation. The atmosphere is tense with occupants constantly worrying about committing some minor infraction, afraid that at any moment they could be told to leave. The Grant House is not encouraging in any way that I could see, in the four weeks that I was there I did not witness even a kind word from either of the owners. There is constant criticism which creates insecurity and stress and is more likely to erode a clients self-esteem rather than to build on it.
