Oxford House Buttercup is a democratically run, self-supporting and drug free home. Oxford House Buttercup is an all male facility. Every Oxford house represents an effective and low cost method of preventing relapse. A representative of every House in the area meets with the others on a monthly basis, to share information, to seek resolution of problems in a particular House, and to express that Chapter's vote on larger issues.  The men of Oxford House Buttercup pay all the expenses related to the maintenance of the house. This house accommodates 8 residents. This self-supporting and drug free home is operated by Oxford House, a non-profit network headquartered in Silver Spring.

My son has struggled with sobriety and challenges mentally due to substance abuse. He was lucky to find this organization so he could have shelter and accountability. As any person suffering from addiction and social isolation... the SUPPORT system of the house is vital. My son was working and getting on his feet slowly. I feel he had a short time of acceptance and security. With the temptations of stopping at a bar after work... and no one there to steer him to avoid a drink.... it is sad to say... that these transitional homes are unforgiving. My son is not perfect and has numerous challenges of fitting in.. socially, getting sober, managing medications ...( which I thought the support at the house would help on this).. NOT to mention..... how a mistake...... JUSTIFIES to be kicked out...that now... presents my son to be homeless. I am worried that... he could be in detrimental circumstances at this point in time. The oxford house policies should be more forgiving. ALSO be a stronger support to THOSE in NEED! THANK you... I feel it is more about getting the RENT!
