This shelter was okay until my police officer/military husband had records changed to where I was the abuser. Then I was kicked out and had to go back. For what it’s worth, I have never felt more hope than I did when I was kicked out for being non-abused. But that was short lived. 20 years later my kids and I are paying an enormous price physically, mentally, and psychologically. My experience was in 2000, I believe. Women of all income brackets deserve a safe place to go with their children when they are treated abusively and threatened. Especially because if you do stay you and your children’s life is at risk, and if you decide to leave you’re even more at risk the same way. And if you actually leave, life will be hell, in my experience When the MoCo police called the shelter, I was kicked out to deal with the abuse again. Much worse, so were my children.
