UMCS was established in 1962, to serve children and their families in Wisconsin. Though we began as a counseling service for pregnant teenagers in 1962, today our program involves a Transitional Living Program for adult single mothers and their children 12 and younger, a licensed on-site childcare center, and the largest food pantry in Milwaukee County. In 2007 we served over 34,000 individuals from from all but the three most affluent zipcodes in Milwaukee County. UMCS is an independent 501(c)3 organization, serving all eligible clients regardless of ethnicity, gender, age, orientation, or religious preference.
